Warren Penniman, 90, of St. Johnsbury passed away at NVRH Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013,
with his niece and her husband by his side. He was born in St. Johnsbury on Aug. 4,
1922, the second youngest of six children born to Harold L. and Ione (Barrett)
Penniman. His wife Margaret Gillander Penniman passed away Feb. 23, 2002.
Warren graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1941 and went on to serve in
the Navy during WWII. He worked in the St. Johnsbury railroad yard
and in the ticket office until going to work for Ralston Purina. Upon
the plant's closing he did custodial work at St. Johnsbury Academy
until his retirement. The Pennimans were members of the South
Congregational Church. Warren was happy to have attended his
seventieth class reunion at the Academy in 2011.
He is survived by his son Richard W. Penniman and wife Debbie of
New Gloucester, Maine; two grandsons Richard and Scott; two
great-grandchildren: Richard's son Dylan and Scott's daughter
Cheyanne who were all pleased to have gotten together this past Christmas.
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews. With Richard being in
Maine, his niece Laura Barrett and her husband Larry were pleased
to do the little things locally for her uncle as did his niece Elizabeth
Knights. Audrey Penniman also survives him as a sister-in-law. He
was predeceased by four brothers: Leonard, Howard, Edward, and
Lyman, and his sister Marjorie Shoppe.
Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home this Saturday,
Jan. 12 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and will conclude with a prayer service at
3:30 p.m. led by the Rev. Mark M. Milligan, pastor at the South
Congregational Church. Following cremation he will be buried with
military honors May 2 at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
