Virginia S. Daniels, of Pleasant Street in St. Johnsbury, passed
away late Tuesday evening, Jan. 24, 2012 with her family at her
side. She was 87. She was born on April 6, 1924 in
East St. Johnsbury, the daughter of Ralph and Dorothy Shastany.
On May 1, 1948, she married Paul I. Daniels, known as 'P.I.'; Paul passed away in 1993.
Virginia graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1943. She enlisted in the Navy
W.A.V.E.S. and spent her time during WWII decoding messages in Washington D.C. She was a
member and past president of American Legion Post #58 Auxiliary, member of the St.
Johnsbury Women's Club, and worked part-time at Hovey Shops and the Candlelight Restaurant.
She is survived by three children, Deborah Broe and husband Myron of St. Johnsbury; Michael
Daniels and wife Brenda of Jericho; Dennis Daniels and wife
Barbara of St. Johnsbury; six grandchildren; Deborah's two
children and step-daughter, Stacey Blodgett (husband Mark);
Jason Sleurs (wife Hilary Manners); and Kimberly Broe; Michael's
three children, Michelle Martin (husband Nicholas); Brittany
Daniels; and Christopher Daniels; four great-grandchildren,
Alexander; Jarrett; Sawyer; and Landon; and nieces and
nephews. Last year she was predeceased by a brother, Ralph Shastany Jr.
A gathering of friends and family will be held this Saturday, Jan.
28, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. At 3:30 p.m. Mr. John Sleeper will lead a
prayer service with Post Everlasting honors bestowed by
members of the American Legion Post #58 Auxiliary. Burial will be
at a later date at the Grove Cemetery in East St. Johnsbury.
