Verna M. Berube , 85, of St. Johnsbury passed away Monday, Nov. 10,
2008, at The Pines in Lyndon. Born Sept. 29, 1923, Verna was the
daughter of Roy and Jesse (Breens) Bean. She was predeceased by her
husband Francis "Red" Berube in 1995. Verna really enjoyed
housekeeping at Downs, Rachlin, and Martin and the camaraderie with all
that worked there. She had previously been a sales clerk at the old Days
Jewelry Store on Railroad Street, was a former member of the VFW
Auxiliary, volunteered at the old St. Johnsbury Hospital, and was played a
part in the early development of St. Johnsbury Little League. She is
survived by Michael Lumbra and wife Marie of Lyndonville (3666
Severance Hill Road 05851); Mary Gardosik and husband Michael of
Anaheim, Calif. (2806 Standish Ave. 92806); six grandchildren, Eric and
Craig Lumbra, Jamie Lumbra, Kelly, Jennifer, and Julie Gardosik; five
great-grandchildren, Lucas, Tucker and Mia Rose, Kaley and Garrett; one
brother Lisle Bean and wife Mary of Springfield, Mass.; and nieces and
nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Audrey Hill of St. Johnsbury;
brother Ronald Bean of Rangeley, Maine; and her middle child, Gary
Lumbra, in 2004. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Johnsbury on
Saturday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will
follow at the Passumpsic Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the
funeral home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Although Verna did not herself die of
cancer, she always supported the Relay For Life of which son Michael is a
