Velma Vance of Danville passed away Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010,
at the age of 88. She was born in Burlington on Oct. 12, 1921,
one of five children born to Olin and Lucy (Bigelow) Vance. Velma
attended a one-room school in Goss Hollow and graduated from
St. Johnsbury Academy in 1940. Velma went to work on the
family farm in Goss Hollow; in 1946 Velma, her father and her
brother Wendell bought the old Stevens farm in Danville. She
enjoyed operating her egg route and her many customers. She
loved her cows and all the farm animals. Her brother Wendell
passed away May 2, 2003; they made their home together on the
farm. She was later predeceased by a brother Lyle Vance and his
wife Connie. Two brothers survive her, Calvin Vance and wife
Ann-Marie of Lomita Calif.; and Glendon Vance and wife Marion
of Norristown Pa.; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and
-nephews. Graveside services will be held Monday, May 17,
2010, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The Rev. Robert H.
Sargent will officiate. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome.
