Thelma Moore of St. Johnsbury, 85, the widow of Donald C. Moore, went
home to be with her Lord on Monday morning, July 16, 2007, surrounded
by her loving family. She was born in Burlington on April 8, 1922, the
daughter of Jesse J. and Annie (Goodwin) Davis. Her parents moved to St.
Johnsbury when she was very young. She married Donald Moore on Sept. 1, 1941.
Donald passed away April 9, 1995. Thelma was the oldest
member of Union Baptist Church in terms of years of membership. She
joined the church March 25, 1934, at the age of 11. After her family, her
church was the most important aspect of her life. She sang in the choir and
was a soloist. She ably filled in on the piano and organ when needed. She
served the church as a recording missionary treasurer for over 20 years
and was state president of the Loyal Workers women's group. Thelma was
also a private-duty long-term caregiver. She also worked at the Area
Agency on Aging and served on the board at the Sunset Home. Thelma
had a love of all God's creatures, great or small. She is survived by three
children, Gary Moore of Searsport, Maine (96 Loop Road, 04974), Bonnie
Ailes and her husband, Robert of St. Johnsbury (188 Mountain Ave.,
05819), and Byron Moore and Paulette of Danville (112 Ski Tow Road., St.
Johnsbury, 05819); four grandchildren, Paul Moore and wife Melissa and
great-grandson Nolan of Old Town, Maine, Allen Moore and wife Vickie of
Moore, Okla., Robert Ailes Jr. and wife Denise; and great-grandchildren
Brittany and Jacob of St. Johnsbury, Brandi Ailes of Montpelier, Vt., and
her half-sister Gloria Stearns of Burlington, Vt. Funeral services will be held
at Union Baptist Church Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Paul Powers
officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visiting hours will be
held at the Union Baptist Church Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
