Ruth M (Ticehurst) Dilley of St. Johnsbury passed away at the Littleton Regional Hospital surrounded by family on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012 at the age of 86. The love and support she gave her family will be greatly missed. Ruth was born on Sept. 21, 1925 in St. Johnsbury, Vt. to Vernon B. and Winifred (Clark) Ticehurst. She attended school in St. Johnsbury and graduated from the Academy in the class of 1943. She later returned to college and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Lyndon State College and as an educator at the St. Johnsbury Junior High and at the Catholic Central School. She married Harold A Dilley, Sr. in the South Congregational Church in St. Johnsbury on June 25, 1949. They raised a family and spent most of their married life living in St. Johnsbury. She and Harold were members of the Orleans Country Club and played there often. She had many wonderful memories of times spent at the family camp on Shadow Lake in Glover that she and Harold owned for over 50 years. Ruth loved taking Tai'-Chi classes at the St. Johnsbury House, reading books, gardening and monthly luncheons with her classmates from the Academy. Ruth was a lifelong member of the South Congregational Church. She enjoyed being on various committees and being involved in the church life. Ruth is survived by her three children: Harold A Dilley, Jr. and wife Brenda of Ocala, Fla., Pat Robbins of New Bern, N.C., former son-in-law Mark Robbins, Pamela Collier and husband Anthony of Westfield, Mass.: seven grandchildren; Jennifer Dilley and Shannon (Mario Alvarez), Tara Henderson and Morgan (Jason Cumbo), Mandy (Joseph Scipione), Tony Collier and Andrew Collier: four great-grandchildren; Emory and Shyanne Henderson and Thomas and Isabella Scipione. She is also survived by various nieces and nephews who she cared deeply about. Her brother, Amos Ticehurst, predeceased her, but she is survived by her much loved sister-in-law, Barbara Ticehurst. A memorial service will be held at the South Congregational Church on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at 2 p.m. Following the service family will receive friends downstairs at the church. There will be a private family burial. The family wishes to express appreciation for the loving care and support given to Ruth by her many neighbors, Dr. Erisman and the staff at Corner Medical, all the community resources utilized for her care, Donna, Pauline and Gisele, the staff at Riverglen House and the staff at the Littleton Regional Hospital with a special thank you to Dr. Lawson. Memorial contributions, marked for the Ruth Dilley Memorial Fund, could be made payable to South Congregational Church, 1052 Main St., St. Johnsbury, VT 05819.
