FAIR HAVEN - Nelson Charles Farr, Sr., 92, Fair Haven, died
peacefully Tuesday afternoon, April 7, 2015, at Mountain View
Center in Rutland, VT, with his loving wife by his side.
He was born in Burlington, VT, on February 27, 1923. His
adoptive parents were Charles and Alberta (Nelson) Farr, and
later a stepfather, Harrison Duval. Growing-up years were
spent in Lyndonville and St. Johnsbury, where he attended
both Lyndon Institute and St. Johnsbury Academy, graduating with the class of 1941.
Nelson enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving four years,
and later in the U.S. Navy, serving twenty years until retiring
in 1967 from the USS Essex as CPOC. He was a member of the
Naval Reserve until 1972.
Nelson was later employed by the Nashua Corporation in New
Hampshire and later in Rhode Island for an auto dealership.
After meeting with former classmate Theodora "Teddy"
Blodgett, they were married in Rutland, VT, on April 17th, 2004,
enjoying many adventures and happy years together.
They attended their 70th class reunion at the St. Johnsbury Academy in 2011.
Nelson was an accomplished competition shooter from age 65
to his mid eighties at National Matches and other locations with many medals to his credit.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son, Nelson Jr., and
his family, and by Teddy's caring children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours or service at this time, with a
private family gathering to be held at a later date.
