Mrs. Marjorie Chase of East St. Johnsbury passed away
Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013 at the St. Johnsbury Health and
Rehabilitation Center where she had resided since August
of 2012.
Her husband, Ralph F. Chase, the love of her life, passed
away April 13 earlier this year.
Marjorie was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt. on June 13, 1922, and grew up on Portland Street, the daughter of Horace
and Myrtle (Johnson) Camp. She graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1941. On May 14, 1943 she
married Ralph Chase; this year would have marked their 70th anniversary.
Marjorie, as many 'Rosie the Riveters' did during WWII, worked and volunteered in many capacities to support the
country including The Red Cross and U.S.O. Upon Ralph's return from the war the Chases made their home
in East St. Johnsbury where they raised their family of three children. She was an active
member of the Third Congregational Church in East St. Johnsbury and the Womens'
Fellowship. She also was a member of the east village's Ladies Home Dem and volunteered at
the St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Center.
She is survived by son her David Chase and wife Pamela of East St. Johnsbury, her son
Michael Chase of Maine; seven grandchildren: David's son Ched Chase and wife Stephanie;
Pamela's two sons Karl and wife Sandy and Matthew Scott; Michael's two children Shelley and
Jeffrey Chase, Patricia's two sons Charles and William Pilette; nieces and nephews. She was
predeceased by her daughter Patricia Pilette and a sister Nettie Camp.
Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held in East St. Johnsbury village Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the
Third Congregational Church. The Rev. Ann Hockridge, will officiate.
Burial will be in May at the Grove Cemetery in East St. Johnsbury.
