BURLINGTON - Marilyn Thompson White, 81, formerly of Camp Street in Barre,
passed away peacefully on Aug. 2, 2012, in St. Joseph's Residential Care Home in Burlington.
She was born in St. Johnsbury on May 21, 1931, the daughter of the late Maurice and Olive
(Munroe) Thompson. Marilyn graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy and from Kathleen Dell and
LaSalle Jr. College in Brookline, Mass. She married
Stanford White Jr. on Nov. 21, 1953. They made their home in Long
Island, N.Y., until relocating to Barre in 1970, where they lived for
many years. Marilyn had worked for many years for the Richard E.
Davis Law Firm in Barre, and was a longtime substitute teacher at
Barre Town Elementary School. Marilyn had been an active member
of the Barre Congregational Church, where she sung in the choir. She
enjoyed antiques, loved to read and was an accomplished poet,
having won numerous awards for her poetry. Marilyn loved theater
and was involved in productions in both Barre and Randolph. She
had also been a member of various choral groups in the area.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Spatafora and husband, Frank,
of Middlebury; sons, Marshall White and companion, Barbara Ginof,
of Ballston Lake, N.Y., and Stuart White and wife, Ginny, of Aldie, Va.;
grandchildren, Sarah Kneale and husband, Chris, of Glastonbury,
Conn., Ashley Hudson and husband, Dave, of Montpelier, Brittany
Swan and husband, Matt, of Topsham, Maine, Jared White of
Bloomfield, N.J., Jehnna White of Lindenhurst, N.Y., and Aaron White
and his mother, Jean Rudaitis, of Florida, who was the companion of
Marilyn's late son, Brian White; and a great-granddaughter, McKenna
Kneale, also of Glastonbury, Conn. Marilyn was predeceased by her
husband, Stanford; and son, Brian. Her life will be celebrated and
remembered on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Barre
Congregational Church. Interment will be in the Vermont Veterans
Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center. There are no calling hours.
The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre, is in
