Claremont resident Katharine Powell Daub died January 22, 2019 at Claremont Manor at the age of 94. She lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico from 1949 to until moving to Claremont in 2008.
"Kay" was born to Harold and Helen Powell in St. Johnsbury, Vermont in 1924. She attended the St. Johnsbury Academy, Smith College for undergraduate studies, and the University of Wisconsin for her graduate degree, where she met her husband, Guido.
She was an avid golfer and world traveler who volunteered at the New Mexico Humane Association, the Albuquerque Zoo (where she especially enjoyed taking the alpacas out to meet with zoo visitors), a local soup kitchen, and as treasurer for four different women's golf associations after retiring from teaching in the Albuquerque Public Schools.
After relocating to Claremont, she enjoyed her friends at Claremont Manor, both residents and caregivers, spending time with family (immediate and extended), and getting to know her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guido H. Daub, professor of chemistry at the University of New Mexico; her brother and sister-in-law Donald and Kathleen Powell; and by her grandson, Timothy John Daub.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Bill Daub and Sandy Hollenberg of Claremont, and John and Shelley Daub of Wilmington, Delaware; and her daughter and son-in-law Elisabeth Daub and John Honek of St. Agatha, Ontario, Canada.
She also leaves her grandchildren Eric Daub and Camille Mathieu of London, UK; Brian and Ginger Daub of Livermore, California; Michael Daub and Taryn Rathbone-Daub of Woodinville, Washington; Mary Beth Daub and Andrew Thompson of Greenville, South Carolina; Katharine Honek and Shaw Forgeron of Toronto, Canada; Jane Honek, also of Toronto; Zachary Daub of Wilmington, Delaware; Sara Daub of Philadelphia; Jason and Ashley Margolin of Vacaville, California; and great grandchildren, Matthew Daub of Woodinville; and Logan and Audrey Margolin of Vacaville.
A service of remembrance will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at Claremont Manor, 650 Harrison Ave., Claremont. Interment will take place in Albuquerque in the fall.
