CHESTER - John B. Yake, 81, died Dec. 16, 2010, at Springfield Health and Rehab.
He was born in Almont, Ontario, April 14, 1929, the son of Philip and Lottie (Firn).
He attended St. Johnsbury Trade School then joined the U.S. Army Air Force
at the end of World War II. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 2002, at the age of 77.
Mr. Yake began his career in 1949 as a head artist at the National Survey in Chester.
He retired from there in 1995. He was a member of Post 58 American Legion in St. Johnsbury.
He enjoyed woodcarving, painting and counted cross-stitching. He was a fan of the Montreal Canadians,
Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Yankees. He also was an avid bicyclist.
Survivors include his wife, Jean (Rumrill) Yake, whom he married March 29, 1958; three sons,
Michael of Laramie, Wyo., Gary of East Greenbush, N.Y., and John Yake of Chester; four
grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Lowe of St. Johnsbury; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Richardson and Margaret Benson; and a daughter,
Susan, in 1991. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at
Chester Baptist Church. A reception will follow at the Chester American Legion.
Burial with full military honors will be held at a later date.

Pleasantview Cemetery on High Street in Chester.
