Guy 'Buster' Ross, a longtime resident of Hooker Hill in St.
Johnsbury, passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011. He was 86.
He was born in St. Johnsbury on June 8, 1925, the son of Guy
and Frances Ross. He married Dorothy M. Rich on Feb. 26, 1946;
she passed away June 8 of last year. He was also predeceased
by his brothers William and Walter.
Guy was proud to have graduated from The St. Johnsbury Trade
School, graduating in 1943 as class valedictorian. He immediately
enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the USS Hector, an
auxiliary supply ship which serviced ships in the South Pacific. He
was recalled to active duty for The Korean Conflict (June
1951-1952) as part of the U.S. Naval Reserve.
He began work at Fairbanks Morse and Co. while still in high
school, returning there after his military service. He retired in July
of 1987 after 44 1/2 years with the company.
Guy was a longtime member of the St. Johnsbury Country Club
and for years golfed Saturday mornings with the Fairbanks
Activities Club. Even though he didn't hit it long nor have a low
handicap, he was coveted on scramble teams for his putting. He enjoyed the game so much.
He is survived by his son David Ross of St. Johnsbury, his
daughter Bonnie Ross of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; grandson Justin
Ross living in St. Albans along with his wife Kelly, and their son
Andrew, Guy's only great-grandchild; also five nieces: Carol,
Nancy, Susan, Donna, and Kathy.
Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home this
Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 7:45 p.m. Visiting hours will conclude with
some Guy Ross stories. Think of it as a good-natured roast, and
bring your best Guy Ross stories. No cigars!!
