Gloria A. (Bailey) Lang , of St. Johnsbury, died peacefully Saturday
morning, Feb. 4, 2006, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. Born in
St. Johnsbury on Sept. 12, 1923, Gloria was the daughter of Alexander and
Mildred (Clark) Tubman and a graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy, Class
of 1941. On May 31, 1946, she married Herbert Bailey, who passed away
Feb. 7, 1972. Herbert and Gloria owned and enjoyed a summer cottage at
Joes Pond, West Danville, for many years and loved to entertain family and
friends. In November 1973, she married William C. Lang, who was also a
very active member of the community. Bill passed away April 14, 1991.
Gloria was a longtime employee of the St. Johnsbury Town Clerk's office
and retired as Assistant Town Clerk. She was active civically in many local
organizations including past president of the Jr. Women's Club, St.
Johnsbury Women's Club, past matron with the Mystic Star Chapter Order
of Eastern Star and a member of the Diamond Chapter of Danville. She
was a volunteer at the Fairbanks Museum and longtime member of the
Grace United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Rae Ann
Bailey Woods of Citrus Heights, Calif., (5908 Trawler Way 95621); four
grandchildren, Kristen Rae Borges and her husband Kurt of Orangevale,
Calif., Richard Eric Coons and his wife Jennifer of Sumas, Wash., Teresa
McNesby and her husband Kirby of Antioch, Calif., and Robert Woods of
Antioch, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Norwood, Michael and
Cassidy Borges, and Melissa and Megan McNesby. A brother, Alex
Tubman, predeceased her. A service of remembrance for friends and
family will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer St. in St.
Johnsbury, this Friday at 2 p.m. Mr. John Sleeper, a family friend, has been
asked to officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with her husband
Herbert Bailey at a later date. It is the family's wish that instead of flowers,
contributions be made to Fairbanks Museum, 1302 Main St., St. Johnsbury
VT 05819 "in memory of Gloria Bailey Lang."
