Gertrude B. Daire, 95, of the Whiting section of Manchester Twp., passed away peacefully at home on Thursday September 27, 2018 at home. She was a Veteran of the United States Army Air Corp having served during WW II. It was during the war that she met her future husband Thomas with whom she would spend a lifetime. She was a homemaker who raised a family of four. After moving to Whiting she became active serving with the Pine Ridge Safety Patrol and was a member of the "Early Birds" of Pine ridge. She loved needle work was an avid reader and also enjoyed playing golf. Gertrude loved her family very much. Born in St. Johnsbury, VT., she resided in Parlin for many years, before coming to Whiting several years ago. She is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, the Late Thomas Daire in 1997. Surviving are her children, Patricia Metzger, Mary Lynn Tarallo, Eileen Michalik, and Thomas Steven Daire. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Gertrude also leaves her older sister Marjorie Smith and several nieces and nephews. Gertrude will be missed by many. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 10-11am at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral, 115 Lacey Rd. Whiting. Services will be at 11am from the funeral home. Committal will follow, to include military honors from the Whiting Memorial Park, Whiting.
