Gemma (Donna) Chaloux of St. Johnsbury passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, in Lyndonville at the home of Susie Greaves, her loving caregiver for the past 17 months. She was born in St. Johnsbury on Aug. 10, 1927, to Leo and Marie Louise (Poliquin) Donna. She attended Mt. St. Joseph Academy. She married Gerard Chaloux on June 15, 1948. Together they raised five children, spending eight years on a farm in North Danville. The rest of their married life they lived at different locations "on the hill" in St. Johnsbury. She enjoyed cooking for her family, sewing and gardening. She was a devoted member of Notre Dame and St. John's churches, spending many hours working on the Christmas bazaars and other Altar Society projects. For many years she ran a catering business with her sister-in-law, Mary Jeanne Donna. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Gerard of St. Johnsbury; three sons, Leo Chaloux and wife Jean of Wolcott, N.Y., Maurice Chaloux and wife Laurie of Waterford, and Frank Chaloux and wife Dorothy of St. Johnsbury; a daughter, Dianne Gingue and husband Andre of Waterford; a son-in-law, Scott Hooker and wife Marion of Waterford; grandchildren Linda Chaloux Mosse, Diana Chaloux, Kelley Chaloux Silon, Maria Chaloux Schaefer, Christine Chaloux Konieczny, Aaron Gingue, Andrea Chaloux, Jeremy Gingue, Lisa Chaloux , Alison Gingue Williams, Daniel Chaloux, Celia Hooker and Shaun Hooker; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Claude Donna and wife Mary Jeanne, Roger Donna, Normand Donna and wife Susan; two sisters Gertrude Turner and husband Robert, Dorothy Lynaugh Leonard and husband Reginald; a brother-in-law, Bill Chaloux; two sisters-in-law, Sr. Theresa Chaloux, CND, and Ms. Sara Donna; and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Denise Chaloux Hooker, a brother, Robert Donna, five sisters-in-law, Geraldine (Chaloux) Lozeau, Sr. Marion Chaloux, RHSJ, Jane Donna, Connie Chaloux, Sr. Irene Chaloux, CND; and a brother-in-law, Gordon Lynaugh. Friends may greet the family at the funeral home this Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. John's Church in St. Johnsbury on Friday, Dec. 31, 2010 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Foundation, P.O. Box 146, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819.
