COOK: Esther Clare , 77, of Barber Street, Fonda, N.Y., passed
away Monday, June 16, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in
Amsterdam, N.Y. She was born June 22, 1925 in St. Johnsbury, a
daughter of Henry W. and Emily M. Armstrong Cook. Esther was
raised in Vermont and was a graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy,
Class of 1943, and was the valedictorian of the class. She went
on to graduate from the University of Vermont, where she
received her bachelor of science degree in music education. She
was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Sorority. She later earned a
master of arts in music from UVM in 1950. She worked for many
years as a music teacher and librarian in the Manchester, Vt.
school system. She also worked at one time in the Chicago Public
Library, and libraries in Staunton, Va., and the state of Mississippi
regional public libraries as assistant and head librarian. She spent
time in Washington, D.C., Nashville, Tenn., and also lived in
Wellesley, Mass. for a time. She was of the Methodist faith. She is
survived by one brother, Richard H. Cook of Rochester, N.Y.; one
sister, Marjorie E. Boshart of Fonda, N.Y.; and many nieces,
nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Beverly
Hamilton, in 1991; and a brother, George Cook. A graveside
service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Danville Green
Cemetery in Danville, with the Rev. John Marshall presiding.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Jackson and Betz
Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, NY 12072. Memorial
contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice, in care of the funeral home.
