Donald Fairbanks Blodgett, Jr., 80, of Nashua, N.H., died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011,
at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, N.H. Mr. Blodgett was born July 6, 1930, in St.
Johnsbury, Vt., the son of the late Donald Fairbanks and Bertha Lula (Silsby)
Blodgett. He was the husband of Carol (Austin) Blodgett of Nashua. They were
married Oct. 11, 1958, in Columbia, S.C. Mr. Blodgett was a graduate of St.
Johnsbury Academy and went on to study engineering at the University of South Carolina,
where he was a member of the engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi. After college,
he served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Macon, where he achieved the
rank of lieutenant. Mr. Blodgett was an active member of St. Luke's Anglican Church
in Amherst, N.H. He enjoyed classical music, genealogy and stargazing as well as
anything outdoors, from gardening to hunting and was a proud
member of the NRA. He was a master woodworker who created
beautiful furniture for family and friends. He also crafted remarkable
dollhouses with amazing detail for each of his granddaughters. Prior
to his retirement, Mr. Blodgett had been employed as an electrical
engineer at Lockheed Sanders for 25 years.
Mr. Blodgett is survived by his wife, Carol; his son, Steven L. Blodgett
of Nashua, N.H.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Stephanie L.
Blodgett, of West Milford, N.J., Jami G. Bascom and husband Thomas J.
of Greenfield, N.H., and Stacey L. Ferraro and husband Thomas D. of
Kinnelon, N.J.; one brother, Theron H. Blodgett and wife Patricia of
Atlantic Beach, Fla; one sister, Theodora H. Farr and husband Nelson
of Fairhaven, Vt.; a brother-in-law, James L. Austin and wife Betty
Ann of Winston Salem, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Barbara G. Austin of
Columbia, S.C.; and five grandchildren, Julia C. Bascom, Peter T.
Bascom, Emily A. Bascom, Johanna M. Goergen and Andreas M.
Goergen; several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held Friday Jan. 7, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at
Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock St., Nashua, N.H.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Luke's
Church, 3 Limbo Lane, Amherst, N.H. Burial will take place at a later
date at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, St. Johnsbury, Vt.
