Deland Adna Vitty, 85, passed away on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015. Mr. Vitty was
born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., was a 1948 graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy, and
attended Norwich University in Northfield, Vt.
He was a member of the U.S. Air Force Band retiring at Shaw AFB in Sumter,
S.C., in 1970 at the rank of Master Sergeant. Mr. Vitty was the founder of the
St. James School Marching Band in Montgomery, Ala., and established Vitty's
School of Music. He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of the Scottish Rite,
and Past President of the Alcazar Shrine Temple Band in Montgomery. Mr. Vitty
was preceded in death by his wife, Emma S. Vitty. He is survived by his
daughters, Laura V. Weaver (David) of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Jennie Vitty-
Rogers (Matt) of Marietta, Ga.; a brother, Roderic B. Vitty (Pat) of Quechee,
Vt.; nieces, nephews; and special friend Paula Gray of Hampton, N.H. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospital or St. James
School Band Fund in memory of Deland Vitty.
