David B. Franklin , 77, of Newport, passed away in Barton on Thursday, Sept.
21, 2006. He was born in St. Johnsbury on Feb. 6, 1929, the son of H. Earl and
Eva (Howe) Franklin. David was a graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy and
Bryant College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a
stockbroker for many years. He was a member of the Newport Rotary Club, the
Kiwanis, the Masonic Order of Newport Memphremagog Lodge #65 F & AM,
and the American Legion Newport Post #21. He was an avid sports fan and
enjoyed playing golf, tennis, skiing, reading, and was an active member of the
United Church of Newport and its choir for over 45 years. On Oct. 5, 1957, David
married the former Mary Taylor, who predeceased him in 1997. He is survived
by his children, Alan Franklin and his wife Wendy of Newport, Dianne Matos and
her husband Tony of Shrewsbury, Mass., and Juliet Franklin of Malden, Mass.;
and his grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Matos, and Andrew Franklin. He
was predeceased by his brother, Richard Franklin; and by his sister, Mary Elene
Woods. Friends may call at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Memorial
Chapel, 37 Lake Road, Newport (formerly Bay Street) on Monday, Sept. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Parking and easy ramped entrance in rear of funeral home. Funeral
services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the United Church of Newport at 10:30 a.m.
with the Rev. Joy Toll-Chandler officiating. Interment will follow at
the Lyndon Center Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Should friends desire, contributions in
David's memory may be made to North Country Hospital Diabetes Education Fund.
