Chester King Quimby , 77, passed away peacefully at his home in Vista,
Calif., on May 8. Chet was born April 4, 1928, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., the
second child of Irma and George Quimby of Passumpsic. A graduate of St.
Johnsbury Academy's Class of 1946, Chet excelled at football and track
and went on to receive a degree in journalism from Syracuse University.
During his professional career, he held various executive marketing
positions at IBM, CBS/Fawcett and Architectural Digest. For 25 years he
lived in Mahwah, N.J., and was a deacon at the Ramapo Reformed
Church. He was also an active member of the Republican Club. He is
survived by his second wife of 27 years, Mary Alice Finnie; and his three
children, Janice of Sonoma, Calif., Christopher of Suffern, N.Y., and
Alexandra of Pittsburgh, Pa. Chet was predeceased by his first wife, Doris
(nee Deichmeier), who passed away in 1978. A memorial for Chet will take
place at Quimby Hill in East Barnet in late July.
