FALMOUTH - Barbara P. Wood, 96, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021 with her daughter by her side. She was born on May 8, 1924 in St. Johnsbury, Vt. to Glenn E. and Ann B. Perry. She was married to Albert L. Wood for 37 years until his death in 1995.
She served in the Waves from October 1944 to July 1946 being discharged as a Storekeeper First Class. Following her graduation from the University of Vermont in 1950 she worked as a secretary for the Luther Gulick Camps in Raymond and for Mobil Oil Corporation in South Portland until her marriage in 1957.
Mrs. Wood was a covenant member of First Congregational Church of Brewer for 32 years and later of the Falmouth Congregational Church UCC, Falmouth.
Genealogy was her passion for many years. She traced her family and her husband's family back many generations. She was a Mayflower descendent of the Chilton family. She was a member of many genealogical societies, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was predeceased by her husband, Albert; and son, Roger P. Wood.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and James Kenny of Portland; granddaughter, Melissa Kenny and her husband Michael Rivera of Milford, Mass., grandson, Colby Kenny and his wife Sarah of Raleigh, N.C.; great-granddaughters, Elysia and Everly Rivera, and a great-grandson, Julian Roger Kenny, born the day after her passing. She is also survived by brothers, Lawrence and his wife Marilyn Perry of Corpus Christi, Texas and Clark Perry and his wife Pam Moore of Auburn, Mass.
A memorial service will be held at a later date when Covid restrictions allow at the Falmouth Congregational Church, Falmouth.
A spring internment will be in the family plot at the Woodbine Cemetery in Ellsworth.
The family would like to thank the staff at Falmouth House at OceanView for the care that Barbara received for the past six and a half years and Tracey from Compassus Hospice for her support for the past several months.
