Audrie E. (Powers) Wright of Greensboro, Vt., (formerly of Waterford, Vt.) died
on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at the age of 85.
Audrie was born in Waterford in October 1929, the second youngest child of
Glenn and Eva (Page) Powers. She graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy's
Class of 1947, and married Rolla Wright Jr. on her 18th birthday that year. They
settled near their families' farms in Waterford and together raised five children.
As a younger woman, Audrie enjoyed reading, swimming and fishing for brook
trout. She and Rolla taught their children to know and appreciate the
wildflowers and animal life of the Northeast. Favorite places included the Old
Swimming Hole beside the little red schoolhouse on Shadow Lake Road in
Concord, Vt.; Dodge Pond in Lyman, N.H., and Long Sands Beach in York,
Maine. Picnics, going out for ice cream, and listening to WSTJ and her favorite
singer, Elvis Presley, created special memories. For many years she was an
active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of St. Johnsbury, Vt.
Audrie is survived by her children and their families; E. Lynne and husband
Douglas Mitchell of Fort Ann, N.Y.; Kathryn Bennett of Hendersonville, N.C.;
Leonard and Lanette Wright of Danville, Vt.; Lyle and Sheryl Wright of
Princeton, W.V.; and Amy Brill and Scott Brill of Sutton, Vt. She has 13
grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister
and brother, Geneva Wright and Willard Powers, both of Waterford, Vt., and
many nieces and nephews.
Services will take place on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the Guibord
Funeral Home in Lyndonville, Vt.
