PETERS: Robert J. , longtime Fairbanks employee, passed away
Tuesday evening, Oct. 7, 2003, at the Bay State Medical Center
in Springfield, Mass. Formerly of 22 Pearl St., in St. Johnsbury, he
had lived with his son David in Enfield, Conn., since just before
Easter of this year. He was born in St. Johnsbury July 7, 1917,
one of seven sons born to William and Mary (Ramsey) Peters. On
June 4, 1949, he married Beverly (Kennison) Peters; she died
April 9, 1995. He was also predeceased by five brothers, Philip,
Richard, Adelbert, Walter and Wesley. Bob was a 1939 graduate
of St. Johnsbury Trade School. He joined the National Guard and
was later activated to duty in World War II. He was a veteran of
the Army having served in the Philippines. He retired from
Fairbanks in 1980. He was a member and former deacon of the
North Congregational Church; a member of BPOE 1343, IOOF
Caledonia Lodge 6, American Legion Post 58 and the Golden
Age Club at Fairbanks. He is survived by two sons, David M.
Peters and his wife LuAnn on Enfield, Conn. (36 Northfield Rd.,
Enfield, CT 06082), Craig Peters and his wife Kathleen of
Meriden, CT (52 Hill St., Meriden, CT 06540); six grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren; one surviving brother, Ralph Peters
of St. Johnsbury; and nieces and nephews. Services will be held
Saturday at 3 p.m., at the North Congregational Church with the
Rev. Jay Sprout officiating. Visiting hours will be held at the
Sayles Funeral Home, Friday evening 6-8 p.m. Memorial
contributions, marked for The Activities Fund, could be directed to
St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center, 1248 Hospital
Drive, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819. Bob loved to play card games,
especially cribbage. He loved playing cribbage with the senior
citizens group at the Elks and with his grandchildren. He might
have signed off on this obituary, "Fifteen-two, and I'm out!"
