DEAN: Mrs. Pauline Lillian , 89, Proctor, a former resident of Stratford, Conn., died after a long illness at the Haven Health Center of Rutland, Vt. Pauline was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., on Feb. 13, 1914, the youngest child of the late Henry and Clara (Lizotte) Masse. She was a 1932 graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy and she later received her certification as a registered nurse from the Brightlook Hospital School of Nursing in St. Johnsbury. Pauline resided in Connecticut from the mid-1930s until 1994, when she moved back to Vermont to be closer to her family. She had been a very active member of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Stratford, Conn. Pauline was predeceased by her husband, James C. Dean, and all of her brothers and sisters, as well as by two sons, John Dean in 1978 and Clement Dean in 1983. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Dean and her husband Curtis Hoffman of Storrs, Conn.; her son James M. Dean and his wife Cheryl D. Dean of Proctor, Vt.; her daughter-in-law, Nancy Dean of Windsor, Conn.; her three grandchildren and a niece and nephew. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Stratford, Conn. Burial will be private at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford. There will be no services in Vermont. Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Dean may be given to St. James Roman Catholic Church at 2110 Main St., Stratford, CT 06497.
