Marion B. Streeter , 89, longtime resident of St. Johnsbury, passed away in Albany, N.Y., Sunday morning, Dec. 19, 2004. She had resided at The Atria at Crossgate Assisted Living for the past eight years. Marion was born March 27, 1915, the eldest daughter born to Perley S. and Beatrice (Donaghy) Bonett. She graduated with honors from St. Johnsbury Academy with the Class of 1933. Marion was married to the late Lewis J. Streeter, principal at St. Johnsbury Trade School. She retired as supervisor from New England Tel & Tel after 23 years of service. While her daughters were in school, Marion was active in parent-teacher associations and served as president and treasurer. She was very active in the Grace United Methodist Church; there she served on the board of directors, as a past president of the UMW (United Methodist Women) group, on the pastor-parish committee, and as a delegate to a National Methodist Women's conference which was held in California. She was also chairperson of many annual Christmas bazaars. She frequently helped organize, prepare and serve many of the church's chicken pie dinners. Her hobbies were knitting, sewing and rug hooking. She tried to knit 30 pairs of mittens every year for the Santa Fund. In her retirement she devoted many hours to her elderly friends, running them to doctor's appointments, buying groceries, as well as doing volunteer work at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. Retirement also meant she could spend more time playing bridge. She was the mother of two daughters, Laurie Wheeler and her husband Lloyd of Colonie, N.Y., and Merrie Dyer of Cazenovia, N.Y. Her son-in-law, Brian S. Dyer, died in 1987. She was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren, Scott L. Wheeler of Colonie, N.Y., Lynn M. Romania and her husband Rudi of Loudonville, N.Y., Thomas B. Dyer and his wife Kristi of Boca Raton, Fla., Jason S. Dyer of Cazenovia, N.Y. She was also the loving great-grandmother of Grace Laura, Brooke Mari, and Laura Lynn Romania. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Daire of Whiting, N.J., and Mrs. Marjorie Smith and her husband Russell of both Danville, Vt. and Inverness, Fla.; and by a brother, Earl Bonett and his wife Ruth of St. Johnsbury; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mrs. Arlene May and her husband Royce, and Mrs. Harriett Badger and her husband Phillip; one brother, Edward Bonett and his wife Mary; and a brother-in-law, Thomas Daire. A springtime memorial service will be held Friday, June 3, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery and will precede the service. There will be no visiting hours. Memorial contributions may be directed to either Grace United Methodist Church (marked for the organ fund), 36 Central St., St. Johnsbury, VT 05819; or to Alzheimer's Association (Vermont chapter), 16 Ferry St., Suite 427B, Concord, NH 03301.
