Marion E. Potter , 89, of Gorham, N.H., passed away on
Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at her daughter's home. She was
born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., on Oct. 20, 1920, the daughter of
Albert and Hope (Carpenter) Paine, and grew up in St. Johnsbury,
graduating from St. Johnsbury Academy. At the age of 28, she
moved to Gorham. Marion was a member of the Gorham
Congregational Church, UCC, the Dupont-Holmes Post 82
American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star. She had
been employed by Converse Rubber Co., and later at Newton
Tibbetts Mill in Bethel, Maine, until her retirement. Members of the
family include two sons, Bruce Potter and his wife Donna of
Bethlehem, N.H., and David Potter of Gorham; a daughter, Janet
MacKay and her husband Robert of Gorham; three grandchildren,
Mark MacKay and his wife Cynthia of Gorham, Michelle Smith of
Gorham, and Kari Baldasty and her husband Steven of
Colchester, Vt.; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews
and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Milton E.
Potter, her parents and by a brother, Palmer Paine. There will be
no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring in
the Mt. Hayes Cemetery in Gorham, N.H. Donations in her
