Marian Ward , 86, longtime resident of North Danville, died
peacefully June 3, 2006, at Greensboro Nursing Home. Marian
was one of twin daughters born to Helen and Benjamin Ward in
St. Johnsbury on Feb. 9, 1920. They lived in the more rural
section of North Danville while she was a youngster until the
family moved into the village to be near schools. She attended
North Danville schools through the 10th grade, then transferred to
St. Johnsbury Academy and graduated in 1938. Marian was
employed as a sales clerk at F.W. Woolworth's, a proofreader at
The Caledonian-Record newspaper, and a telephone operator at
New England Telephone. The onset of multiple sclerosis led to a
disability retirement in 1979. After selling the family home in North
Danville in 1994, she resided in the senior apartment complex in
Danville and from there entered into long-term care facilities due
to health problems associated with MS. Her final years were
spent at the Greensboro Nursing Home, where she was a lively
and popular resident. Marian's family wishes to express a special
thanks to the staff at Greensboro Nursing Home for their care and
kindness. Pets were important companions all her life, along with
close family, her vacation cottage at Joe's Pond, and numerous
crafts of many kinds - needlework, quilting and an absorbing
fascination with creations using gifts of nature. Many gifts went to
family. Marian was predeceased by her parents, a younger
brother, Horace, a private of the 47th Infantry Regiment, 15th
Army, who was a casualty of WWII, and a nephew, Roger Pollard.
She is survived by her twin sister, Margaret Pollard, of North
Danville; three nephews, Tom, Martin and his wife Laurie of
Danville and their children Benjamin, Christine, Jennifer, and
Amanda, and Curtis and his wife Mary of Essex Junction and their
daughter Meghan, as well as cousins in Maryland, Maine and
Pennsylvania. A graveside service will be held at 5 p.m. on
Friday, June 9 at the Danville Green Cemetery, Brainerd Street,
Danville, Vt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the
Multiple Sclerosis Society, 75 Talcott Road, Suite 40, Williston, VT 05495.
