Leona O. Berube , 89, formerly of Main Street in St. Johnsbury
passed away in Little Rock, Ark. where she had been residing
since 2004. She was born in St. Johnsbury on Aug. 9, 1920 and
was the daughter of Albert A. and Lillian (Emmons) LaChance.
Her husband Eddie predeceased her in 1983; they were married
Nov. 23, 1942. Leona graduated from Mt. Joseph's Academy in
1938, the first class graduated from the school. She worked 17
years at St. Johnsbury Trucking and later worked part-time at
Gauthier's Pharmacy. She was active in the NVRH Chaplaincy
Program, R.S.V.P. (Retired Sr. Volunteer Program). A parishioner
of St. John the Evangelist Church, Leona administered the Lady
of Ste. Anne fund for years. She is survived by two sons, Richard
Berube and wife Debbie of Virginia Beach Va., and Michael
Berube and wife Maryann of Little Rock, Ark.; three grandchildren,
Michael of Atlanta, Ga., Brian of Virginia Beach, Va. and Marilee
Fairman of Little Rock; two great-grandchildren; a brother,
Charles LaChance of Rutland; and many nieces and nephews.
Leona was predeceased by her brothers, Donald and Paul
LaChance; and her sister Bernadette DeForge. Funeral services
will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home this Friday, Oct. 9, 2009,
at 11 a.m. Friends and family will gather at the funeral home from
10 a.m. to the start of the service. Burial will follow the service at
Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions could be directed
