Roy: Gratia N., 83, died peacefully at Applewood Villa in Madison, Wis., Friday, April 12, 2002.
She was born July 11, 1918, in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of Joseph and Mabel Nolin. Gratia's
life was devoted to her family. She lived in St. Johnsbury and Littleton, working for Sears
Roebuck & Co. before marrying Ralph L. Roy on June 30, 1946. They lived in northern Illinois
before moving in 1948 to Beloit, Wis., where she resided for many years. In retirement she lived
in Rogers, Ark., and Bowling Green, Ky., before moving to Madison in 1999. She was a
homemaker throughout her married life and was a wonderful cook, avid gardener and loving
mother. She had an especially comforting manner and was loved by all who had the opportunity
to know her. She is survived by her husband Ralph of Rogers, Ark.; two sons, William Roy and
wife Suzanne of West Chester, Ohio, and Michael Roy of Madison, Wis.; two brothers, Regis
Nolin and wife Joyce of East Dorset, Vt., and Charles Nolin of St. Johnsbury; three
grandchildren, Kirsten Roy of Madison, Wis., and Maxwell and Alex Roy of West Chester, Ohio.
Gratia was preceded in death by her parents. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday,
July 20, at 11 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in St. Johnsbury. Burial will be in
Mount Calvary Cemetery.
