Gordon Arthur Wood died on Oct. 27, 2010, at the age of 88. He was
born in St. Johnsbury, in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. He graduated
from St. Johnsbury Academy in the Class of 1939. In 1942, Gordon joined
the Army Air Corps and flew combat missions out of England in 1943 and
1944. While serving with the 68th Squadron of the 44th Flight Group, he
was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, with four bronze battle stars,
and the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. In 1949 he entered the
Railway Postal Service and worked on the Boston and Albany RPO, SPG,
and NY RPO along with other lines and installations before transferring to
the Springfield, Mass., post office, where he retired in 1980. Since 1981
Gordon has lived in Florida.
