FREDERICK G. MEHLMAN, 84, died on April 30, 2003 at Fairhaven in Sykesville, Maryland.
Born July 21, 1918 in St. Paul, Alberta, Canada he was the son of M. Frederick and Rosemond
C. (Hamm) Mehlman. He attended St. Johnsbury Academy, the Universities of Vermont and
Illinois and graduated from Boston University Law School in 1941. He served in the U. S. Army
during World War II from 1942 until 1946 and then in the Vermont Army National Guard until
1974 with ranks from Private to Colonel. He practiced law in St. Johnsbury, Vermont and then in
Montpelier, Vermont, where he was General Counsel for National Life Insurance Company. He
served in various Part Time Vermont State positions including Deputy Attorney General,
member and chairman of the Vermont Water Resources Board, The Vermont Statutory Revision
Commission, Public Defender and Legislative Draftsman. He married Wanda M. Winfrey of
Georgetown, Texas, on January 11, 1944, who survives him. He is also survived by his sons
William F. Mehlman, a Physicist with Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, and his wife
Gloriann, and Dr. Thomas W. Mehlman of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and a granddaughter,
Jennifer Mehlman of Maryland. A sister, Dorothy Clare Mehlman predeceased him. Haight
Funeral Home is in charge of Funeral Arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to a
charity of choice, the American Cancer Society, the Arthritis Foundation, the American Heart
Association, or Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family. The
ashes will be interred at the Lamoille View Cemetery in Johnson, Vermont.
