WOLFEBORO - Franklin Victor Schneider (known to all as Vic), 85, of
Wolfeboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005 at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro of a heart attack.
Born July 23, 1920 in New York City, the son of the late Ernest and Sophie
(Goodman) Schneider, he attended St. Johnsbury Academy in St.
Johnsbury, Vt., and also graduated from Dartmouth College and earned a
Masters in Business from Tuck School, Class of 1941.
He was a U.S. WWII Veteran serving as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy
onboard the HMS Hobart off the coast of Australia.
He was the owner of Skampalon Corporation in New York City, as a
children's garment manufacturer.
Schneider enjoyed life. He held the 100-yard dash record while at St.
Johnsbury Academy where he was the president of his graduating class.
While at Dartmouth he was involved in the Drama Club and was the DJ of
the "Jive at Five" radio program. When you ran into "Vic" he always had a
smile, a kind word and a joke that made you laugh. He was a die-hard
Dodgers, Mets and Jets fanatic. He was an avid golfer and skier. He
worked with the physically challenged while he volunteered at the Human
Resources School in Albertson, N.Y. He also did volunteer work at the
Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and he taught English as a second
language while in Quechee, Vt. The Schneider's lived in Roslyn Heights,
Long Island, N.Y. for 40 years; they also enjoyed their time at their second
home at Lake Raponda, in Mt. Snow, Vt., before relocating to Quechee, Vt. in 1989.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Roberta "Bobbie" (Gabbe)
Schneider, Wolfeboro; and his daughter, Patti (Schneider) Scarola and
husband Dominick, Centerport, N.Y.; his son, James Richard Schneider,
Newburyport, Mass., and his grandchildren, Nicole and Christopher
Scarola, Dominique Scarola-Woods and Michael and Brent Schneider. He
was also predeceased by a sister Bunny (Schneider) Klein.
He was interred at the Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 7800 Myrtle Avenue,
Glendale, N.Y. Sunday, Oct. 16. A memorial service will be held at Shir
Shalom Temple, Route 4, Woodstock, Vt. on Oct. 30 at 1:30 p.m., where
his friends and family can share their memories of him.
