BAXTER: Elizabeth "Lib" Lord Chase , 83, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003,
at her winter estate in Parrish, Fla. She was born Sept. 27, 1919,
in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of Theodore W. and Julia S.
Chase of St. Johnsbury. Lib graduated from St. Johnsbury
Academy, Class of 1938. She was a graduate of Wheelock
College in Boston, Mass., Class of 1942. On June 8, 1942, she
married John T. Baxter of Waban, Mass. She was a teacher for
several years and a store manager while traveling during her
husband's service in the U.S. Army. For 83 years, Lib was a
summer resident of Joe's Pond, and enjoyed gardening,
swimming and reading. She was a lifelong member of North
Congregational Church in St. Johnsbury, and also a member of
the Eastern Star. Lib is survived by her husband of 61 years, Col.
John T. Baxter, U.S. Army (Ret.); one son, John T. Baxter II of
Bradenton, Fla.; two daughters, Cynthia A. Decker of Owensboro,
Ky., and Marcia Baxter Young of Parrish, Fla.; four grandchildren,
and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held this
summer, with details to be announced. Burial will be in the family
lot in the Passumpsic Cemetery. Contributions in Lib's memory
