Arlene Rebecca Desrochers, 91 formerly of Passumpsic, left this earth on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011
to be with her loving husband Lucien in heaven. She was surrounded by her family and
passed peacefully into the house of God. She was the daughter of Harvey and Florence
Somers of Barnet, Vt. She was an active member of the Mason Sparrow club, Senior
Meal Center, and the Passumpsic Community Baptist Church. In her later years she was a
member of the Chickadee Quilters in Bridgton, Maine.
Arlene lived in the Barnet area until the death of her husband Lucien in 1999. She spent the
remainder of her years living summers with her daughter Mary in Bridgton, Maine and winters
with her daughter Rose in Severn, Md., bravely taking an airplane ride each
direction. She was an active, sharp 91 year old. In April of this year a fall
sent her to a rehab facility with a broken hip from which she made an
amazing recovery. In the end a stomach ailment ended her lust for life.
Her greatest joy was her family, especially her great grand and great-great
grand children. She would look forward to their every visit, sitting with them
for hours. She filled everyone's lives around her with her wonderful talent of
crocheting, knitting and quilting. Every birthday meant a gift of her
handiwork, and under the Christmas tree there were the multi-colored mittens every Christmas.
She is survived by her two daughters: Mary White and her husband David
of Bridgton, Maine, and Rose Mahoney and her husband Richard 'Pat' of
Severn, Md., 5 grandchildren: Robin Harmon and her husband Paul,
Nathan White and his wife Tamera, Kelly Somers, Patrick Mahoney and his
wife Kelly, Brendan Mahoney and his wife Cara; her great-grandchildren:
Johnathan McIlhinney and wife Lynsie, Daniel McIlhinney, Andrew
Mahoney, Caitlin Mahoney and Ryan Mahoney; great- great-grand children
Emmelia and Hunter McIlhinney and a very special friend Ruth Drown of Danville, Vt.
Funeral services will be held in St. Johnsbury this Friday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m.
at the Sayles Funeral Home. Prior to the service the family will receive
friends from 1 p.m. to the start of the service.
Memorial contributions for the stained glass window could be directed to
the Passumpsic Community Baptist Church.
