MCFARLAND: Althea Mary , 86, of Lyndonville, passed away
Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health
Center, Lyndonville. She was born April 16, 1917, in West Burke,
the daughter of the late James S. and Dora (Hastings) McFarland.
She graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1936. She
attended a child care training school in Massachusetts. She then
returned to Vermont to care for her ill mother until her death. She
spent her working years in the child care field. After retiring, she
returned to Vermont and soon resided at the Darling Inn. When
she became ill, she moved to the Woodside House in Danville
and then in 1995 she became a resident at the Pines
Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndonville. She was a
collector of dolls and enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting. She
was a member of the Lyndonville United Methodist Church. She is
survived by her brother, Leon and wife Anna McFarland of
Danville; her cousins, Bertha Ellen Robinson of St. Johnsbury and
Sue Hooper of California; and several nieces and nephews. Her
brother, James McFarland, predeceased her. There will be no
calling hours. Funeral services will be held at the Lyndonville
United Methodist Church, Thursday, July 3 at 1 p.m., with the
Rev. Ted Ruggles officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant
Cemetery in St. Johnsbury. Those who wish may send
