Edith Nelson Perkins , longtime elementary school teacher at the Frank R. Adams School in St. Johnsbury, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at the age of 98. She had resided at The Pines in Lyndonville for nearly the past seven years. She was born in St. Johnsbury on Feb. 28, 1912, the daughter of Robert and Elma Armstrong. Edith graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy with the class of 1929. Mrs. Perkins taught elementary school for a total of 41 years, teaching second grade at Frank R. Adams School ever since it was built in the late 1950s. She had previously taught school in Danville and East St. Johnsbury. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley in the early 1990s; and by her first husband, William Nelson, in 1955. She is survived by her son, Charles Nelson of South Burlington; three grandsons, Jeffrey, Gary and Jonathan Nelson. Funeral services will be held at Sayles Funeral Home this Thursday at 1 p.m. with Mr. John Sleeper officiating. Committal services will follow at Danville Green Cemetery. Family will be at the funeral home prior to the service at noon for anyone wishing to extend their sympathies.
