McKENNY: Dorothy Mae Baker , 92, of Newport, died Thursday, March 28, 2002 in Newport. She was born Dec. 16, 1909, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, a daughter of Howard Mason and Lula (Lewis) Baker. After the death of her father during the swine flu epidemic, the family returned by train to Vermont in 1918. She was a graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy and was stranded while visiting Newport during the flood of 1927. On Sept. 1, 1930, she married Gordon W. McKenny, who predeceased her Jan. 24, 1974. Mrs. McKenny had been a member of the United Church of Newport for over 60 years; a member of the Newport Women\'s Club, the Eastern Star, and a volunteer at North Country Hospital and the Goodrich Memorial Library. She is survived by two sons, Ronald B. McKenny and wife Sandra of Newport, and Douglas G. McKenny and wife Sara of Newport Center; a daughter-in-law, Jean Lawson McKenny of Derby; a sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Calvin Knowlton of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Mary Baker of Chesterfield, Mich. She was very close to all her grandchildren, Heather McKenny Menard of Colchester, Derek S. McKenny of Atlanta, Ga., Alicia Hanrahan and husband Douglas of Randolph, Ian A. McKenny of Boston, Mass., Erin McKenny of St. Louis, Mo., Douglas G. "Mac" McKenny Jr. of Derby, and James A. McKenny of Newport. She is also survived by a great-granddaughter, Madison L. McKenny of Atlanta, Ga., and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Stanley C. McKenny, and two brothers, Lewis and Clayton Baker. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 4 at the United Church of Newport with the Rev. Martha Peck and the Rev. Joy Toll-Chandler officiating. Spring interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
