This web page is dedicated to the memory of
Ellen Currie Hill.

The following listings are copied from the book,
CEMETERIES OF EAST MONTPELIER,
VERMONT 1795-1971
by Ellen C. Hill and Bob and Lois Webster
which was transcribed in 1971. This inventory of
gravestones have been generously donated to the
Northeast Kingdom Genealogy web page by
Joanne H. Bair and Bob and Lois Webster
and with the special help from James Cutler.

After the first edition of this research was
published a box of vital record cards was
found at the town clerk's office. The cards
were the result of records compiled by the city
clerk of Montpelier, Carlos Def. Bancroft in 1911
and contain records between 1794 and the late 1860's.
The cemetery cards indicate he read the stones
existing in the early 1900's. Some he read are now
no longer to be found but others we found he did not.
Since all his records are on file in the Vital Records
Dept. of the State, the stones he did not find are not
recorded there.

In this list we used blue print to denotes
information from the cards.

DILLON FARM CEMETERY The Dillons owned two places in 1858.  The W. Dillon farm was at the end of town road 33.  The R. Dillon farm was on town road 18.  The two burials there are listed in Vital Records as being on the Old Dillon Farm.  The Dillons came from Ireland to Boston and in 1852 to Vermont.  The R. Dillon farm remained in the family until the 1960's.  Mrs. William Gladding made note of what was on the two stones. They were to be found near town road 18 and a line fence until 1969.  According to a neighbor they disappeared when the new road was built.  (In 1994 the 3 stones were said to be recently in the barn of the R. Dillon farm - the old Gladding farm.)
